Is it a bad thing?

December 20th, 2007 at 04:59 pm

I went to a shop yesterday. I was on the queue to pay when I saw a girl in front of me take out a coupon. I thought to myself, "I could have looked online and printed out a coupon before I came shopping". I told the cashier I "forgot" to bring the coupon with me. She asked me what the coupon looked like and I could answer that because I had seen the other girl's coupon. She said no problem, and took the % off. She also said "It's fine, we don't really need the physical coupon". Is it cheating? I don't really feel bad. I just think that "there is no harm in asking". But maybe I should have just said I don't have a coupon but can I still get a discount? Would she have laughed to my face then?

I don't think it's bad. She could have said "no" if she was uncomfortable with it.

The coupons are theoretically out there for anyone to use, so i don't think it's a big deal.

While I can understand your having a slight second thought, they could have just told you no if they did not want to offer you the discount. Instead of worrying about it, congratulate yourself for being smart enough to ask.

The Foley's here in our area keeps a copy of the current flyer and % off coupons they send out at the register. They actually ask--did you bring a coupon? If you say no, they just use the coupon they have at the register. I agree, if it was an issue, they would have told you they needed it. obviously, they want anyone to use it. Remember coupons, although they save us moeny, are marketing tools for stores or products.
