What is your holiday tradition?

December 21st, 2007 at 03:39 pm

We are almost done with Christmas shopping. Just a few tiny items to buy. We are planning on doing a lot of cooking during the weekend before we go and see family/friends on Tuesday. In the past years we have tended to eat out a lot on Christmas hols. We will not be doing that this year. What is your Christmas tradition and is there one thing that you do that you always look forward to besides spending time with family of course?

I take the children to Xmas mass at 5:00pm, and, while we are all away, Santa brings the presents!

my husbands large italian catholic family gathered at his mom's Xmas eve until last year whereupon we now meet at his brother who is more centrally located.

of course the family is aging, the 'kids' are all out of college and some do not make it. the 'grandkids' are still little and make it an enjoyable time.

    We all bring potluck.

And PLAY BINGO!!! With mil's game that she brings.

We drive around town the weekend before and look at all the holiday lights on the houses. We stop and get coffee and hot cocoa for the kids to drink while we oh and ah over all the pretty houses.

We also attend Christmas Eve Mass where my husband plays his guitar with the choir and my daughter sings.

Wouldn't miss either for the world.

After we put up the tree, we always have eggnog for the 1st time. On Xmas Eve, we have a huge dinner with Turkey, pork, (for those who eat it, black beans, white rice, yucca, fried bananas, bread, dessert, salad of course. After the meal, we have one person give out the gifts and we open them. We play lots of Xmas music.
